Villnöß & Environment

Rocky towers, peaceful landscapes, and idyllic hamlets with ancient farmsteads make Villnöß/Funes an attractive resort area and a paradise for hikers. While exploring the Puez-Geisler/Odle Nature Park (part of the UNESCO World Nature Heritage Site), you can admire a fascinating natural wonderland.
You'll find historical churches and chapels along the way, where you can stop for a solemn moment. Visitors are enthused by the Nature Parking House in St. Magdalena and the Mineralogical Museum in Teis/Tiso. The nearby medieval cities of Klausen/Chiusa and Brixen/Bressanone are worthwhile destinations. There are lots of traditional festivals, and the local inhabitants are known for their friendliness and hospitality.
The famous mountaineer Reinhold Messner is from Val di Funes. He was the first on all fourteen eight-thousand mountains, and now lives as a book and film writer in Merano at Schloss Juval.
